MKE Week 1 – Write Something?

Hah.
I’ve had aspirations all my life to write.

Reading was my favorite past time – in fact, one of
the most enjoyable things for me was to go to the library
and read encyclopedias – LOL and then check out a bunch
of books. I loved to learn. I loved mysteries.
I found the world and information absolutely fascinating.
Of course, this was pre-internet.

When I was young, I wrote poetry.
Then in Junior High, I actually started writing a ‘novel’.
I would write a chapter and then would read it at lunch to my friends.
The listeners grew.
It was fun. I grew up on mysteries and murder stories…so I’m not surprised
that my story was called ‘The Grip of Death’.

I don’t remember too much about it now, except the picture in my
of a fist and forearm sticking up from the ground at a cemetery.
And of course, the heroine’s job is to solve the mystery of the who,
what where and when.

I wrote lots of stories in my head….but then, I went to college and
my mind was filled with all the things I needed to learn, memorize and
the ‘dream’ of writing kind of disappeared into the background. Then the internet exploded and I had to write emails for training and
information, write presentations….and again, ‘writing’ in my mind’s concept
was lost.

In the last year or two, it has started stirring in me again.
I especially was wanting to something auto-biographical…as a
starting place. I’ve explored some writing courses, but not much further. Then, for the last 5-6 years or so, I opted out of social media… and am
still not sure I want to go there – even though I know it’s great exposure, practice
and so many things.

Now, I’m taking this course…. and I have to blog. It’s funny. I thought ‘This is going to be really hard’. ‘What in the world will
I talk about?’ But, the words have just poured out and it’s been easy.
So glad it’s worked that way for my first experience. It will be fun to see where this goes.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this as much as I have.

  • I can relate to you Ms. B.! I too grew up up learning to read the dictionary, stories from my mind…you sure allowed me to reminisce…blogging to me is like the good old days of journaling.

  • Georgia…get ready! Those passions are going to rise and you have a platform to grow them on now. 🙂

  • I’ve always admired your openness to growth. I know you’re going to see the results you’ve been looking for with the processes you’re doing now!

  • I admire your desire for reading and you’re a good writer. I read what I had to for school, but then because I was in sales for years, of all things, I read “Self-Help” books. Which really didn’t help.

  • I really enjoyed reading your blog, Barbara. I have similar passions buried somewhere within!
