To be – or not to be
This first week has been blotchy, filled with very different patches of focus, fear, confusion, blankness, confrontation, shock, discovery – and so on and on.
Four particular sentences that stand out from Og Mandino’s work, The Greatest Salesman in the World, for me are:
I have surrendered my free will to the years of accumulated habits and the past deeds of my life have already marked out a path which threatens to imprison my future. (p. 54)
My bad habits must be destroyed and new furrows prepared for good seed. (p. 55)
… only a habit can subdue another habit. (p. 55)
My neglect, abuse, suppression and misdirection of my power and energy has been staggering. The Chaos is writhing. Fathoms and fathoms deep.
I am so grateful for a new choice, that a new choice is possible.
Daily.
Today I begin a new life. (p. 51)

Congrats on a new choice…daily. “ Today I begin a new life”
Hello Sharon, great post! We are all indeed constantly under the threat of sinking into the chaos created by our thoughts, feelings and resulting bad habits…The most important is to realize like you did that we also have the choice every day to recreate new, good habits! Kudo on you and welcome on board the MKE!
Your reflection on this first week is raw and powerful, capturing the complexity of confronting old habits and the chaos they can create. Og Mandino’s words resonate deeply, highlighting the profound impact of our past choices and the urgency for change. The realization that “only a habit can subdue another habit” is transformative, and it’s inspiring to see you embracing the possibility of new choices daily. With this awareness, you’re stepping into a new life filled with hope and purpose—an incredible journey of renewal has just begun.
