In the heart of the countryside, where the landscape stretches endlessly, I embark on a journey—a 55-mile drive. This drive, along a secondary highway flanked by farmers’ fields and cattle land as far as the eye can see, is more than a mere commute. It is an opportunity for mindful meditation, a chance to connect deeply with the present moment and just be.

As I navigate the road, the world outside my vehicle becomes a tapestry of changing colours. The season is in transition, and the leaves have donned their autumn attire—vibrant shades of orange, red, and yellow. Each leaf tells a story of transformation, a reminder of the cyclical nature of life.

Yet, in this practice of mindfulness, I strive not to think about the beauty before me. Instead, I aim to feel the emotion of the beauty, to let it wash over me without the interference of thought.

The challenge lies in resisting the urge to label, categorize, and analyze. The mind naturally wants to think, to engage in a dialogue with the world. But in this meditative state, I remind myself: don’t think. Just feel. Feel the emotion of the beauty that surrounds me. It is a lesson in presence, in being fully engaged with the now.

As the miles pass, the landscape transforms into a series of geometric shapes—blue rectangles of the passing signs, white rectangles of passing clouds, and green rectangles of fields. These shapes are everywhere, a reminder of the simplicity and order that underlies the complexity of life. In this moment, I am reminded of the teachings of “The Master Key System,” which encourages us to find harmony in the simplicity of existence.

This drive is not just a physical journey, but a metaphorical one as well. It is time to make a new habit, to cultivate a practice of reading, sitting, writing, and thinking. Or perhaps, not thinking while sitting. It is about setting aside time to engage with these practices, to nurture the mind and spirit.

Yet, as I reflect on this, I am reminded that setting time aside cannot create new time. It is about prioritizing, about making deliberate choices in how we spend the time we have.

The road stretches on, a ribbon of possibility leading me forward. In this space, I find clarity and calm. The act of driving becomes a meditation in motion, a way to align my thoughts with the rhythm of the road. Each mile is a step closer to understanding, a step deeper into the practice of mindfulness.

As I approach my destination, I carry with me the lessons of the journey. The crop fields and cattle land, the vibrant leaves, the geometric shapes—they are all part of the larger tapestry of life. They remind me of the interconnectedness of all things and of the beauty that exists in simply being.

In the end, this drive is more than a commute. It is a practice of mindfulness, a reminder to embrace the present moment and find peace in the journey. It is a call to cultivate new habits, engage deeply with the world around us, and find joy in the simplicity of existence.

As I step out of the car and into the world beyond, I carry with me the tranquillity of the drive, the lessons of the road, and the promise of new beginnings. It is a journey I will take again, each time with a renewed sense of purpose and presence.
