Robert F. Kennedy interviewing Georgia Hawkes

A short distance from Jaco Costa Rica was the location for a very important interview. Georgia Hawke, a of former Idaho residence, was interviewed by Mr. Robert F. Kennedy. Mrs. Hawkes was seated in the shade of the many fruit trees at “Casita de Frutas,” home of Mrs. Georgia Hawkes.

Robert F. Kennedy: Finally, I have made my first trip to Costa Rica. I am hopeful I can return in the future. What lovely and inviting surroundings here in your home.

Georgia Hawkes: My husband and I have been anticipating this day for several months. We are honored that you traveled all this way to have a chat with me in particular.

Robert F. Kennedy: I really wish I could extend my stay to visit this lovely country, maybe another time you can take me around and show me this area of the world?

Georgia Hawkes: We would really enjoy doing that! There is so much to see, and the weather is great most of the time. The Costa Rican’s are lovely, friendly and very helpful. I would imagine like most people around the world.

Robert F. Kennedy: Well, let’s get started. Please, tell me about this charity, Walk To Beautiful. I really don’t know much about it other than what you wrote in “Wake-Up America!”

Georgia Hawkes: This specific charity as been in my mind for numerous years, then when my husband retired in December of 2024, I saw an opportunity to get really involved. I wanted “boots on the ground!” My boots!

There is a social injustice happening around the world, but mostly in Africa. I recognize that it happens a lot where the population has on-going droughts, causing famines in the lands. There is a snowball effect that then happens. As you know, Mr. Kennedy, tens of millions of people have starved to death during these extended droughts.

Those who do survive, suffer with malnutrition and are stunted in size. This is especially hard for women, since they have many responsibilities each day; carrying water from long distances, cooking, cleaning, tending the children and giving birth to those children.

Mr. Kennedy, do you see how problems could develop?

Robert F. Kennedy: Yes, I do, if these people are malnourished, how are they able to carry on so many labor intensive jobs? If they are malnourished and stunted in size, how do they birth their children?

Georgia Hawkes: Good question, how do they give birth? The tragic response is that they don’t! Here is how this story tells its tale. Parents encourage their daughters to marry young, then they become pregnant. These girls are small for their age, because of droughts they have lived through, and when the time arrives to have their baby, they can not give birth!

They labor for days, causing the baby to die, and often the young mother as well. If she does live, then the area that the head of the baby has been pushing against, dies. Days later, the woman starts to leak a steady flow of urine and feces. This condition is called an Obstetric Fistula. Without surgery to repair the hole/holes left behind, the woman is condemned to a life of isolation and shame.

Robert F. Kennedy: Why is this not getting more attention? This is a tragedy! How many women are affected each year? Are there any statistics?

Georgia Hawkes: Yes, and they are shocking! It is estimated that 50,000-100,000 new injuries to women happen every year in under-developed countries. it is estimated that over 2 million women live with untreated obstetric fistulas.

Robert F. Kennedy: It seems as if the government of these various countries who find ways to protect their female population. What are they doing?

Georgia Hawkes: Almost all maternal deaths are preventable. My donations help to build more hospitals, making them more accessible, and governments need to be held accountable.

Leaders in all African countries need to be focused on educating their people about the cause of these unnecessary deaths and injuries. These leaders need to represent women and their unborn children, focusing on education, more funds going towards hospitals, with a whole floor devoted to tending and repairing these women’s health, and provide training in correct C-Section procedures . This condition, obstetric fistula, has been virtually eradicated from the USA since 1895.

Robert F. Kennedy: What part do you play in Walk To Beautiful? How did you become involved?

Georgia Hawkes: A number of years ago when I became aware of these women’s plight, I knew that some day I would be more than a donor. That I actually would go to Africa to help search for these precious women who have been removed from society by no fault of their own.

Because of a lack of concern from their leaders, I am hoping that you will take this message back to President Trump! He has great influence with many countries around the world, also he is very compassionate and generous.

We are all people of this world, we are neighbors, we are friends that haven’t met yet, these are our sisters who need us to be their voices! They have no voice. I can hear their cries for help, I see their tears from suffering, and we need to do more for them! We need to eradicate this plague.

Robert F. Kennedy: I am very humbled that you invited me here, to your home to hear about this tragic ongoing event. I am proud to take this message to the President of the USA. This is another way we can MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN, by caring for our fellow human beings abroad.

Georgia Hawkes: I am equally humbled and honored to be a part of Walk Too Beautiful.
