Sunday after the call, I asked my husband if we had any compasses. I thought he had given me one that I had put into my backpack, but I couldn’t find it. He showed me a couple, but I didn’t like them.
Then he remembered that he had a couple others that he had found in my grandfather’s barn after he had died in 2001. I didn’t even know that he had found them. One was larger and didn’t work, plus it wasn’t setup to be worn easily. The other one still spun and had a ring on top that I could string from a necklace.
My grandfather was the only other entrepreneur in my family when I was growing up. He was the reason that I’m a serial entrepreneur now. I never had the chance to thank him for his influence on my life.
I decided to use my necklace that I had gotten in the Dominican Republic, which was a black rope with a charm. That trip was the first one that I had taken outside of the US since 1985 and it seemed like a good combo, as my true north involves being able to travel freely to anywhere in the world.
I’ve been wearing the necklace/compass combo all week, telling the story to others. I may end up wearing it for a while longer than this week, as every time I look at it, it reminds me of my focus.
