This week in The Scroll Marked II in Og Mandino’s book The Greatest Salesman in the World, we were to cross out the word “will”. The word will was written 76 times in this little scroll of four small pages.

I was thinking of the word will and what it means. Some people may say it means the will of a person or willpower. In this context it is meant as to do something later. How many times do I say I will do something and never do it.

Saying I will isn’t a true commitment to my word. I can get out of what I said I would do. I can say, oh I will get to that later and never get to it.

When crossing out the word will in the scroll, it changes the whole meaning of the scroll. It’s not just a lackadaisical I will get to that someday. No, it means I am doing it now. I am greeting this day in my heart now. It makes it present tense and for me it really brings it to life.

I am making love my greatest weapon and none on whom I call can defend against it. This takes me from a passive reader to being the reader doing this thing called love.

I would say I am a loving person, and I think the people who know me would say the same. And yet, this scroll has pushed me to think further beyond what it easy to love. It’s easy to love my family and friends, it’s harder to love the challenging people and situations in my life.

I am reminded that I can find the good or be grateful in all things. Just look through the lens of love and the good will reveal itself.

So, I am greeting this day with love in my heart now.
