How were things for you at the beginning?

At first, I looked around at all the disarray in my life. Nearly everything was out of order. I had the sensation of having no victories – of being defeated before I started. Financially, I was spending more than I was earning, my reserves were being depleted.

I could not manage to get together with Catherine, my fiancée (who lived in Indonesia at that time). In terms of order, whenever I looked around my house (and home office), there were papers strewn everywhere.

Looking at my health, my glucose numbers were too high, and I was at least 25 pounds overweight. I ran out of energy easily. In terms of career, my coaching business had yet to attract its first customer,

How are things for you now?

I have found how to connect with clients who can benefit from my services. It delights me to meet them every day. My finances have leaped from minus 5 figures per year to plus six and rising.

Catherine and I are now married. We have two homes: one in Indonesia and the other in Florida.

I have lost 22 pounds, and my body mass index is 23. I have far more energy than I once did, which allows me to do all sorts of things with my wife that would have worn me out before my transformation.

How did you make your transition?

I remember looking with envy at other people whose lives were in order and I wished I could be like them. From there, certain things began to occur to me. I realized that success was possible. I realized that I was structurally capable of success – or that with practice, I could improve.

A major challenge for me was the sensation of overwhelm coming from the fact that there were so many things I needed to accomplish that I had to find a way to make them fit into this gigantic puzzle.

I identified six major endeavors I needed to work on. My initial list was: financial health, relationships, career, physical health, psycho-spiritual health, and order.

Instead of being immobilized by fears and desire for comfort, I redefined my inner life in such a way that I began to get enthusiastic about the things I had shied away from.

The most tedious chores that I had once dreaded became the most beautiful delights. I found ways to energize this activity and get to the point where I truly enjoyed doing them.

At first, I spent one half-hour on each of them. I expanded the half-hour to forty-five minutes, and eventually to a full hour.

My scheduling was not rigid: Some days, certain of these activities required some maintenance, Other times, there were projects that required more than the time frames I had originally allotted. I figured out how to weave these priorities into the time I had available to work on them.

The main thing I did was to cure myself of the desire for distractions; whereas before (for example), if you dropped me off in front of a candy store, I would really be in trouble., I finally got so single-minded and motivated by purpose that I could walk through a candy store just as aloof as a cloud.

So, was your improvement instant and spontaneous?

Far from it! My learning curve was not a path of immediate and unconditional perfection. I began to observe myself and sometimes saw that I was off course.

Whenever that happened, I reminded myself of the analogy of the jet plane. Jet planes are usually off course about ninety-eight percent of the time. We do, however, manage to get from point A to point B, because the plane is in a constant state of course correct.

I learned to let go of my negative self-judgment for those times I was off course… and I got myself back on course. No matter how many times I had to course correct during a day, I did it. As a result, the percentage of time I spent on my desired projects began to increase.

This is essentially how I had managed to transform a task that had once been a pain point to a motivating, exciting activity that energized me.

I went from distracted, unfocused procrastination in which I was unwilling to face the present necessity to focused, committed and devoted activity in service of what was in front of me.

I rewired my emotional framework so that my subconscious (affectionately called “Subby”) so that subby became a major source of support. Before, Subby was following his default programming and was an obstacle to my progress.

This re-wiring was one of the main processes that lead to this outcome.

Another important element was that I realized I was paying an “ignorance tax”. Some of my efforts were being hampered by things I didn’t know. Therefore I sought to learn them.

This often required practicing the right things. For example, if we want to play a song on a musical instrument, we will have to practice the movements that will create the sounds we want to produce.

What about your future prospects?

Catherine and I are planning to start our family. We will split our time between Indonesia and the USA,. My business is growing, yet it is manageable so that I can spend the time I want on it.

We will travel where (and when) we wish, dedicating our time to our overarching goal, which is promoting the oneness of humanity.

Meet Andy Murphy

My lifelong passion has been to entertain, educate, and help people. I teach music, English as a foreign language, and I coach people who need to take the stage to take this extra energy that seems to always show up – and get the energy to work for them to make their presentations and performances even better and more dynamic.
