Press release
On this beautiful sunny day on December 15, 2029, Hanna Kim, the host of Toronto Christian Broadcast, is scheduled to interview Linda Song to hear how her journey walking with Christ has been joyful and how she has overcome her life struggles.
Hanna asked, “So, how could you graduate high school in Canada, obtain a bachelor’s degree, and become a CPA when you came to Canada at age 17 with only elementary education from South Korea?”
Linda smiled, “I did not do it, but God did it for me! I don’t know how I did it, but I said to myself I had no other option than to study and get educated no matter how long and how hard if I wanted to get respect from people and make a better life for myself and my family.”
Hanna was puzzled and asked, “Why did you skip formal education after elementary school?”
Linda looked sad and said, “In Korea back then, if you played sports for junior and senior high school, they did not send the athletes to school but put them in almost like military-style trains (8 hours per day for 6 days a week). Sadly, regular corporate beating by the coaches was permitted, and we were not allowed to go home except for 3-5 days during the new year. We were aged between 12-18. So young, and many cried at nights with homesickness.”
Hanna was amazed to hear and a bit puzzled. “Does this practice still continue there?”
Linda said, “I don’t think the beating is still continuing, but I’m not sure if they send the students to school now… I was lucky that my family emigrated to Canada so I could have a second chance.
“I hope your testimony will encourage many others who are struggling now.”
Hanna looked at Linda’s DMP, which she wrote in 2024, and asked, “How has your relationship with your daughter and others changed since you wrote your DMP in 2024?”
Linda’s eyes brightened, and they smiled with joy and proclaimed, “God again did it for me?”
Both Linda and Hanna laughed with the audience.
“Honestly, my relationships with my daughter and others are not perfect, but it is a beautiful journey seeing how I have changed. Our relationship has matured to the point where we respect each other and enjoy each other’s company thoroughly. Now, we share our own struggles and growth together. I see the glass half full in every situation and have compassion for others’ needs. I am looking forward to having a date with God each morning, and it has been so sweet!”
At that moment, both Hanna’s and Linda’s eyes met. Both smiled with thankfulness, and Hanna said, “May our God be glorified today with your story, and I will now close off the interview with Amazing Grace.”
