Day of Silence

I chose to do my day of silence at home for one day. I wasn’t sure what to expect. I had to consciously not pick up my phone or put my smart watch on. I left my phone upstairs in airplane mode so I wouldn’t be disturbed. I did my normal morning routine wondering how the day would be.

I had my cup of coffee and sat on the couch and noticed the cat sitting outside in the sun. I decided to join her. I sat outside for a couple of hours drinking my coffee and journaling. I was silent, but I noticed all the noises in nature.

The crows squawking, the trees rustling in the breeze, the airplanes flying in the distance. It was very peaceful. The sun shining down and warming my back.

It was time to go back inside, and I sat in silence with my journal. I was loving this time of silence and the uninterrupted time to journal and reflect. I thought maybe the time would go slowly, but it actually went by pretty quickly. Before I knew it, it was already past 9pm.

I only did one day, but I might just make this a half yearly or yearly practice. Next time I may go away for a couple days to fully immerse myself even more, but even just one day was very refreshing and satisfying.
