The Missing Check-mark

The check-mark is arguably them most important and impactful invention that mankind has ever come up with; at least as it relates to productivity.

I start the week with a list of things that need to get done and as they are accomplished, I put a check-mark beside it. A quick glance tells me how I’m doing and where I need to focus my efforts. At the end of the day or week I can look at the list and know exactly how I did.

I’m old school; paper and pen but I also use the notes section on my phone for sub-lists for things like grocery store items or Home Depot trips where the to-do item of going to the store and buying what I need is on the paper and the specific items are my phone.

No check-marks there; just delete them as I put them in the cart. This is an update that I added when I first discovered the notes section on my phone.

It’s always a great day or a great week when everything on the list has a check-mark beside it. However there are those times when I end up with list items and no associated check-mark; for whatever reason.

Those are the ones that stare at me; taunting me and trying to make me feel shame and incompetence. Such was the case this week with ‘submit blog’. I sat down several times to write and submit it with the same result; “I got noth’n.”

It’s frustrating to sit down to write and nothing happens. The words just won’t come. I tried everything to make it happen; exercise, have another cup of coffee (second one with 2 tablespoons of MCT oil), sit for 15 minutes and clear my mind, stand outside in the sunshine.

Why am I not able to squeeze 300 words out of my brain and onto a MS Word document?! I was even tempted to try AI but that would be wrong.

So if anyone reads this and is as thoroughly unimpressed as I am; I apologize. It is what it is. Now I have to go to Home Depot and check-mark my list.

  • I love it Ron! I also love the check-marks. If I do something extra, I add it to my list just to check it off! Great job:)
