The Scroll Marked V
I will live this day as if it is my last. Og Mandino
That’s the first sentence in the scroll marked V in Og Mandino’s book The Greatest Salesman in the World. I understand where he is coming from, always do your best as if it is your last day on earth.
Although, if I knew it were my last day on earth, I would fill it with all the things I love. I would want to spend time with family and friends laughing and eating great food that I love and listening to my favorite songs and dancing.
I wouldn’t want my last day to be more work, more pushing to go further. I understand that in order to be where we want to be in life, we must do the work required. And I know that push energy is not the way to do it.
Push energy does not work. Believe me, I’ve tried. It’s about doing what you can today with what you have where you are at. If I do that, then I can look at myself in the mirror at night and know I did my best.
The other parts of the chapter do talk about savoring each day, being grateful for another day of life, hugging your children and spouse, helping a friend in need, not looking back to the regrets of yesterday, and making the most of each day of life.
I do agree with all of those things, and I would add in, have fun. Live life to its fullest with laughter and joy.
A family friend of my husband’s recently passed away. We found out that she and her husband were visiting their kids and grandkids out of state. All of the sudden she didn’t feel well. She started walking to the bathroom and on the way, just collapsed and died.
None of us know when our last breath will be. I am grateful every day I wake up and I give thanks for a brand-new baby day and I ask for guidance that I may live the life I am supposed to and that I am the person filled with love and light.

Very powerful, Heather. Great reminder to appreciate every day.
