I Am Uniquely Me
I have had a poster called My Declaration of Self Esteem I Am Me and I Am OK by Virginia Satir.
The wording on the poster mentions that there is no one else like me. Everything that comes out of me is authentically mine. I own everything – my feeling, my body, my voice, my actions, whether they be to others or myself.
She goes on and describes a great deal more things. After that she says if you do not like something about you, discard the thing you do not like and replace it with something better.
If something puzzles you, if you are friendly and loving to yourself, you can look for solutions for those puzzles. Virginia says this can apply to living and dealing with the outside world.
She ends with “I own me, and therefore I can engineer me, I am me and I am okay.” This poster has been in my house since I about 18 years old. My kids saw it every day on the wall.
It reminds me of Scroll 4, “I am unique” of The Greatest Salesman in the World book by Og Mandino. I heard that scroll and it fits with my way of thinking since I began working on me so many year ago.
I have told my people who did not know what to do exactly what to do at some point. You cannot change someone else. All you can change is yourself. So make yourself the best you you can be!
Choose what you want to discard or change and take steps to change it. Don’t beat yourself up. Be easy with yourself and friendly to yourself!
Listening to scroll 4 hammers home what I have been working on my whole life. He puts the spin on the salesman part but it’s still there. I am uniquely me and I am OK.
