The first time I can remember having the feeling, was as a youth in 4-H. As part of the requirements, I had to keep a record of the feed, grain, tack, (saddles, Halters, bridals etc.) any expenses associated with raising my pony.
I remember sitting at the desk in our bedroom and recording how many bales of hay and straw we had purchased. How many pounds of oats and how much was left at the end of the month. I remember the feeling of satisfaction I felt after completing the record keeping. I felt like an adult. Like I was doing something, becoming someone. Like I was almost in business. Like I was learning to be a Farmer, It was a good feeling.
One of the unique things about life is that you find what you are looking for, what you are focused on. This week as I have been recording things in the Franklin Makeover work sheet, it has caused me to look for certain things.
What was I to look for this week? Well Organized. My wife and I had both decided independently of each other, that the first area of focus for each of us would be the same thing, Well Organized. Wow what a blessing. It is kind of nice when your partner agrees with you.
Well what has been the result of this exercise thus far? Interesting, I would say. They say you don’t notice something unless it is already in you. That is an interesting concept. I have begun to notice, there were actually times when I was well-organized. When I thought and planned organization.
I noticed others that were organized. I have noticed the benefits of organization. I also have noticed the lack of organization and the time and money wasting that happens as a result. Although I have made an effort to quickly look past the lack and find a way to look for the good in well organized. It definitely has helped things move in a positive direction.
I am grateful for this exercise. It has bolstered my confidence in my organization skills and caused me to take strides to get better. Prior to this exercise I was constantly focusing on what needed to be done and not what I had accomplished. Since we get more of what we focus on, I was pretty much in a bad place with my thinking, most of the time.
I have not mastered everything, but I am getting better. I realize that I have more skills and I am better than I was giving myself credit for. Still to come is the desk and the 3 X 5 cards, but they will come.
If I can do some of the things I have recognized this week, that I already do, I can do more. If others can do what I have noticed they do. Then I can do more of what I need to do, to be better organized.
Who knows, maybe I can even have that feeling I felt as a Youth in 4-H. That feeling of satisfaction, that comes with being Well Organized.
Great job remembering to be aware of the organization around you. I find that the hardest part is remembering to look for it. When you do, you progress. Keep at it.
Excellent! I was also in 4-H and remember fondly the record keeping involved. (I am a White) Good job for both you and your wife!
