Keep Walking
This week we were tasked with watching one of several movies and to look for connections to the things we have been learning. I chose to watch Door To Door, the story of Bill Porter who despite his cerebral palsy became a successful salesman just like his dad.
He faced rejection starting at the job interview. Once he got past that obstacle he faced rejection from prospective clients on his daily neighborhood route.
What I saw was a young man that public perception saw as unemployable. But with persistence and the encouragement of his mom, overcame and became a great salesman. He walked the hero’s journey with resilience and determination, not letting his physical limitations prevent him realizing his goal. He didn’t let his mind convince him that he couldn’t do it.
I’m reminded of this quote in the book “The Greatest Salesman in the World” by OG Mandino,
Never consider defeat…remove any words of quit, cannot, unable, impossible, hopeless, and retreat; for they are words of fools. To ignore the obstacles at my feet and keep my eyes on the goals above my head, for I know that where dry desert ends, green grass grows. I persist until I succeed. Og Mandino
Bill Porter learned to be a good, interested listener and built genuine rapport with people that gained their trust before they ever bought his products. The relationships he developed were foundational to his success.
When we come to life with the right attitude, perseverance and loved ones cheering us on then there is nothing that can stand in our way of achieving our dreams.

That is a great movie to showcase persistence. Thanks for sharing!
