A Fresh Mind
One of the great aspects of living today is the abundance of information that is available to us! That at the touch of a finger you and I have access to all of the knowledge of people everywhere that have ever taken the time to write it down.
It opens opportunities to learn and grow and be more than we currently are. However, even more incredible than that, is how we are all able to hit the reset button in our lives at any point we so choose.
Every day we have the ability to start a day with a fresh mind. It is powerful to be able to say to yourself, “today is new, I am letting go of the past and beginning again on this project or journey.”
However, most of us don’t really do it well. Most of us have thought about the ability, admired those who are able to accomplish it, even dabbled with the concept ourselves, but we have not really embraced what can seem and feel like something better left to someone else.
Maybe someone younger, someone with more energy, someone smarter, someone with less responsibility, maybe less baggage… someone more capable.
So, what is the trick? Well, if I am being honest with myself, I am not sure there is really one perfect formula that works for everyone, but I do believe there are several parts to the process that can help if you are brave enough to want to embrace a “reset” for yourself.
First, you have to take responsibility for yourself right now, not blaming others for any aspect of where you are in life due to your actions, circumstances, or even those of others where you are perhaps the recipient of someone else’s good or bad life’s work.
Instead, do this simple yet difficult action, acknowledge the past and your current situation for what it is. Take stock, embrace it, and know that you and I are more than what we currently are.
If you are currently stuck in a loop of thinking that will not acknowledge this first step, well, you are probably not really serious about a reset. Stop running from your responsibility to yourself in any way that removes your agency.
Next, know that you can be what you will to be. Know… don’t hope, but make the decision and have the confidence that you can be better, you can accomplish more, you are able. How do I know that?
Because it has been so for every person that has ever had the thought and taken a step in the right direction. Incrementally, we can change who we are and what we are becoming. But it takes new thinking and a decision to decide on that new thinking.
Know that you will not just will it into existence without replacing some of your current thinking with an expanded mind that comes from learning to replace what you say to yourself with possibility thinking and not diminished lack based self talk.
You will also have to change some habits, learn new skills, and use the power of replacement for when you want to fall back on what you know that is comfortable and routine. Note that I am not dwelling on this last sentence.
A whole book could be written on the topic, so instead of doing that, just be aware that if you do not substitute some new actions, to create some new mental muscles you will not create a real “reset” in your life.
Finally, and while together I am certain we could add more steps, I will leave you with what I think is incredibly powerful. That is what can be found in an old scroll marked III. If you want to succeed, you will need to learn to persist when you cannot see progress, and you will need to learn to:
Forget the happenings of the day that is gone, whether they were good or bad, and greet the new sun with confidence that this will be the best day of my life. Og Mandino
You and I will need to understand that a new journey toward a better future will require releasing some of what is in our past to make room for the future.
It is a gift to yourself to release the successes and mistakes from yesterday so that your mind and mine is not cluttered with the past. You deserve it and you and I can be more than we can even imagine!

Ken, I love how you’re framing this as a RESET opportunity. What a great feeling to have a clean slate, a fresh start. You’re so helpful in reminding us: “Know that you will not just will it into existence without replacing some of your current thinking with an expanded mind that comes from learning to replace what you say to yourself with possibility thinking and not diminished lack based self talk.” From knowing to DOING–you show the way so well. Cheering us all on!
