Learning in Stages: How MKE & My Tribe Keep Me Growing

Learning comes in stages—at least, that seems to be the case for some. There’s no clear explanation as to why, but perhaps it just takes longer for certain concepts to fully resonate.

One observation that stands out is my ability to absorb and implement only a certain amount of Master Key Experience (MKE) material at a time, especially when working to put into practical action.

This marks the third year of engagement with MKE, and every year brings immense personal growth. The material isn’t new, yet each cycle reveals details previously overlooked. Once again, credit goes to the tribe—Tuesday’s Zoom session was no exception.

Last Sunday was Super Bowl Sunday, which meant the usual webinar was scheduled earlier to accommodate the big game. At 9:00 AM PST, the Color Code training session with Lori Enrico and another leader took place.

Due to a prior commitment, it wasn’t possible to attend. Having completed the full Color Code assessment in previous years and with a natural inclination to analyze personality colors when meeting new people, missing this session was extremely disappointing.

Typically, a replay link is available shortly after the webinar, but this time, it was delayed. Fast forward to Tuesday at 3:00 PM Pacific Time, logging into the weekly Zoom call, and—of course—the topic of conversation was Color Code. Listening to the insights shared by fellow members, it became clear how much had been forgotten or, perhaps, never fully grasped in the first place.

Despite having a solid understanding of the Color Code, there was a realization—just the day before, a conversation took place with someone who was undeniably a Red. Yet, unknowingly, I approached her as if she were a Blue. A missed opportunity! The need to watch the replay became even more apparent—time to level up!

So far, the replay has been watched once, though without the chance to take detailed notes. However, there was enough attentiveness to pinpoint exactly what needed to be noted on the next review.

Priority #1- Identifying which words resonate personally—so I can do my own self assessment, both in terms of strengths and weaknesses. Gaining clarity on what qualities need to be developed will help create a more balanced, well-rounded personality, much like a wheel that rolls smoothly rather than one that wobbles unevenly.

Priority #2 – Revisiting the section on identifying other people’s colors is essential. There are specific cues that can help make educated guesses, even if they aren’t always 100% accurate. More importantly, sharpening the ability to observe others without the distraction of formulating a response enhances active listening skills.

Priority #3 – Studying and memorizing the recommended word choices for each color type is crucial. Speaking in a way that resonates with the listener leads to more effective conversations. It’s not just about getting a message across—it’s about ensuring the message is received in the most impactful way.

As a true Blue, will there be overthinking involved? Absolutely—100%! But the goal is for this knowledge to become second nature over time. The hope is to reach a point where communication flows effortlessly, allowing for deeper, more meaningful connections with others.

There’s no clear answer as to why this didn’t fully click in previous years. Maybe it wasn’t the right time. Maybe it wasn’t given the priority it deserved. Or maybe, personal growth had to reach a certain point before the concepts could truly take root. The journey has revealed some lazy tendencies in my past, but now, there’s a stronger drive to overcome them.

For whatever the reason, one thing remains certain—gratitude for my tribe and gratitude for our tribe leader. How did I manage to be so blessed this year? Perhaps everything in the universe aligned perfectly—placing the right people together, led by a most gracious and yet lovingly powerful leader who inspires everyone to mine out the gold within ourselves.

Thank you, Mark and DaVene, for creating this experience!

  • That was so well said Terri, we are so fortunate to have such a wonderful guide (Shirley) this year! I also love what you said about embracing the idea of overthinking. I think that allowing our nature (I too am a blue) to use its skill and then moving forward from there without taking on the negatives of overthinking has been an insight I am only now really developing thanks to this experience and our tribe! Thanks for your post!
