Mom Said Take a Psychology Class
There are times in life you say to yourself, you wish hindsight was not twenty twenty. When I attended college, my Mom constantly reminded me I should take a psychology class to understand people. In college, you meet people from different walks of life. You definitely learn hard lessons on who to and who not to become close to.
In the end, you hopefully become aware of a person’s intent when interacting with them. I never took the psychology class but my Mom persisted with her message.
She let me know you will be able to communicate and interact with people better when you are aware of the different types of personalities. You learn who you could befriend and who you should keep at a distance.
I have to admit I have learned a lot of good and bad lessons meeting people during my life’s journey. The US Office of Personnel Management describes “personality tests are designed to systematically elicit information about a person’s motivations, preferences, interests, emotional make-up, and style of interacting with people and situations.”
I have heard of personality tests such as Myers-Briggs and have been exposed to information regarding Enneagram. I have taken the Myers-Briggs test and most recently Color Code. Both give you an understanding of who you are and how you interact with others.
I feel Color Code gives you tools on how to communicate with people so they feel they are being heard. In my career, I have guessed someone’s personality type. With Color Code I can put them into one of four categories with some observations and questions.
Overall learning who you are dealing with and how to handle them can make things easier. It can also help you learn about your own personality type and what it takes to get you where you want to be in life. I know my Mom is thankful I was exposed to different personality types this way. I am grateful I learned about Color Code all brought to us by sharing our kindness stories.
