I find it hard to sit still. In fact, I find it a challenge to concentrate.
When I was in high school (more than a few years ago), multi-tasking was taught, and the ability to do so was held in high regard. Who knew there is no such thing as successful multi-tasking?
I remember my mother coming to one of the events they used to have where parents could come on one particular day, sit in the back of the room and observe the class. That day the history teacher had us watching a movie on the holocaust (which gave me nightmares), taking notes on that movie and reading a chapter on something else all at the same time. My mother was horrified, but that’s the way it was back then.
As I recall, my high school tried this idea with two years of students before they figured out it wasn’t a great idea. By then for me, the damage was done.
I learned my lessons well, and even now to focus on one thing is extremely tough for me. I jump around and run from one thing to the next instead of hunkering down and getting something done from start to finish.
So… how do you think I might do with the 15 minute sit?
I was a disaster. I didn’t even get close during my first attempts, and began cheating and looking at my watch about 6 minutes into the 15 minute sit. It was torture.
Eventually, I made a bargain with myself in the early days. I allowed myself to sit for 5 minutes, and if I could do that, I would call that a win and then add a minute a day until I got to 15 minutes. I couldn’t even do that. Twitching, itching, shifting around. That was during the weeks of “Think and Grow Rich”.
Once I was accepted into The Master Key Experience though, I got really serious. I began the day after the first webinar. I was determined to sit still for 15 minutes, and I did it!
I did twitch my nose to ward of an impending sneeze as then my nose would have started running. I would have needed to blow it; grabbing the tissue, the blowing, the moving, I trust you’re following me on this. Success would not have been mine, and I was determined this time.
It may not seem like much to you, but to someone who has spent her entire life going a mile wide and an inch deep, it was a monumental accomplishment. I’ve only done it for four days in a row since the first webinar, but that’s four days!
This time, I will not be denied.
I know this experience is an inflection point for me in my life. If I did it once, I can do it again. In fact, I now know I can do it every day which is what I will continue to do.
Cheryl, your dedication to overcoming challenges and improving focus is genuinely admirable. Keep embracing this journey sincerely; every step forward will bring you closer to your goals.
