When I was child, I thought like a child, or didn’t think, and life just happened.
Nothing is a mistake. Everything that happens is a teacher.
The exercises we are doing in Master Key are just like studying music.
When I was 6, I started music lessons (violin) though my grade school, and I did well because I practiced, most of the time. Mainly because I was afraid of my teacher.
I was fortunate to have been given many opportunities to study, through scholarships and mentorships. As that career expanded, I had many teachers from many different schools of music, and all had a different style and interpretation of the music.
Whenever I changed teachers, I had to start at the beginning again, to correct what they saw as problems with technique, so that I could play more like them. That means lots of etudes, exercise and practice – back to the beginning.
I did well. I thought I was just learning music, but from my vantage point today, I learned much more. I learned perseverance, commitment, a work ethic, the beauty of art.
What I did not learn, was the lessons I am now learning about having control over outcome. I practiced a lot, but would still be nervous and lack confidence in performance. I did not have control over the outcome, because I was not in control of my mind. This was not included in my musical education.
The Master Key exercises are like the scales and etudes. They each teach a different aspect of the final performance, which in this case is my life, as I compose it to be. What a gift we are being given!
It is through lots and lots of practice that the exercises come together to be a sonata or a concerto, performed as beautiful music. A great performance is full of emotion and transcends the boundaries of time and space.
We become the music, as we similarly become our true selves through the Master Key exercises. I find myself acting with more generous and loving intent, and having many fewer moments of depression and frustration.
Life is flowing better than it did a short while ago. I am grateful for the opportunity to learn these new skills, and am excited about the new life that is unfolding.
