Kindness Campaign

It’s interesting to me how the simple word “kindness” can still be defined differently by people. I consider it to be something that I do naturally, being “nice” or “civil” or the mainstay of “do unto others what you would have them do unto you”.

Also, if you are doing something that is out of the norm, unusual, unexpected or out of love, then I consider it a kindness. If it’s something that I do every day, like make breakfast for my husband, I do that more as a convenience to myself, as I’m already making breakfast, so I just make it for both of us.

Now, if I have already eaten or if it’s a Saturday morning (which is when he sleeps in late, so he makes his own breakfast), then if I decide to make him breakfast, that is a kindness, as I didn’t need to do it and he didn’t expect it.

I had to analyze everything I did last week to determine if it was a kindness or just a habit/chore/whatever. I do help a lot of people and maybe more of what I did could qualify as a kindness, but by the end of the week I was driving myself nuts with my over-analyzing it.

I just wanted to do what felt right to me, although I’m well aware that what I focus on I get more of, but I was uncomfortable with the labeling of a natural act for me.

I’m not sure if this all makes sense or not, but in the end it was a real struggle for me. Even seeing other people label the same actions as “kindness” in the alliance still didn’t help completely. Just something that I just need to be aware of going forward.

  • At the start of the week I felt the same, this is everyday life, why do we “label” it. Midweek I just went with the flow and followed suit. Who knows who would see my add and be prompted to do the same. I think it’s good that this was a natural act for you and not something you had to stop and try to “perform”
