Why does my old blueprint want to kill my new blueprint?

I believe it’s because creating a new version of myself triggers an intense inner struggle, one that feels like my old habits, beliefs, and fears are fighting to hold on. My “old self” has been built on years of familiar patterns and comfort zones. It’s shaped by habits and mindsets that have defined who I am up to this point. The “new self,” though, represents the changes I want to embrace—my goals, dreams, and values.

Whenever I push for these changes, especially when they challenge my old ways of thinking, it’s natural for resistance to kick in. It’s almost like my old self feels threatened by the possibility of becoming obsolete. This battle isn’t unusual; in fact, it’s a common part of growth and transformation.

I like to think of it as my comfort zone fighting to stay relevant. Our brains are wired to avoid discomfort and uncertainty, and big changes bring a lot of both. So, that old blueprint resists because it’s trying to keep me safe, even if the way it does that no longer serves me.

Here are a few strategies that I have learned since I been in the Master Key Experience (MKE) program and using g to navigate this internal struggle:

Acknowledge the Fear! I start by acknowledging the resistance and fear I feel. It’s a part of me, and it’s there because at one time, it served me. Naming it helps to lessen its power.

Set Small, Incremental Goals! Rather than aiming for massive changes overnight, I’m easing into them. Setting small goals allows my mind to adjust gradually, making it easier for my old self to accept these shifts.

Celebrate the Wins! Each time I align with my “new self,” I make it a point to celebrate. These wins, however small, strengthen my commitment and build momentum.

Practice Self-Compassion! I remind myself to be kind, especially when I take two steps forward and one step back. Change is tough, and a little compassion goes a long way.

Keep My Purpose Clear! Staying connected to why I’m making these changes helps me stay the course, especially when things get hard. My purpose is my compass.

I am learning to integrate the best parts of my “old self” with my vision for the “new self.” It’s about finding that balance, where my past can support my growth rather than hold me back.
