An Act of Kindness During a Chaotic Time
With this being Kindness Week, I wanted to share a story of what a dear friend did for me.
I have known her since first grade. Over our formative years we stayed close and kept in contact with each other. Through life’s ups, downs and all around I knew I had a friend I could count on.
My Mom had told me years ago, God blessed me with genuine and loving friends. I did not understand what she meant until times came around that I needed a friend’s help. The kindness towards me was never in short supply. I did not struggle to find help. It was always sincere without reciprocity.
I had been dealing with attempting to figure out why my walking pace drastically slowed down. I mentioned what was going on to a medical professional in person and through messages on the office’s system.
I was told I was dehydrated. I drank more water but my pace never increased. I followed up to let them know I was not getting better. I kept getting the same answer for months.
I am guessing the universe decided enough was enough. I had an episode where my head became heavy and I could not keep my balance. Thankfully I was at work and a co-worker saw me struggling.
I appreciated their kindness and their willingness to assist me. They helped me along with a few others and encouraged me to seek medical attention. Thankfully I did without hesitation.
After a couple of scans in the emergency room, I found out I had to have surgery. I was happy to finally find out what was going on with me. I also started to wonder how the healing process would be and who would be there for me.
Once I was home and on my healing journey, my dear Sister friend talked to me everyday for months. We agreed on a time range to catch up with each other. I was given the option to text if I did not feel well.
She let me know since she could not be there in person, she wanted to make sure someone was checking in on me to make sure I was progressing well and mentally good.
It is never easy when you think you are alone in a chaotic situation. Her kindness and support along with many others who stepped in without hesitation let me know God blessed me with people who were genuine in my life.
“Kindness is a language that the deaf can hear and the blind can see.”
