Jump Over and Push Through Obstacles with Boldness
The Scroll Marked III in Og Mandino’s book “The Greatest Salesman in the World” has planted a new seed within me. The opening sentence “I will persist until I succeed” came to life for me this week.
I often doubt myself when it comes to asking people to support a goal I am working towards especially if I need help. I willingly help people because I want to see them succeed and I know how it feels to stand helplessly alone.
I have learned to not expect anything in return when I help someone. The fourth Law of Giving and Receiving which states “I promise to give, without expectation of reciprocity, to the channels I enrich because I know I am in the dynamic flow of giving and receiving” helps emphasize that thought.
In the coin collecting business I belong to, the company offered a challenge coin to anyone who was able to get twenty-five people to watch a pique video about the business. At first I was hesitant to start because I doubted my confidence to ask people and get a positive response to watch the video.
My birthday was during the contest dates. I decided to ask people to help me for my birthday. Many of my friends were more than happy to help since most know I collect coins. One friend multiplied what I asked of her and reached out to family members who knew me to get them to watch. From one call I got help from eleven people. Her willingness to help reminded me of a quote by Dr. Steve Maraboli which states:
With one kind gesture you can change a life. One person at a time you can change the world. One day at a time we can change everything. Steve Maraboli
For a couple of weeks I mulled over who I could reach out to so I could get to twenty five views. I was close to the number I needed. I received a text from the company encouraging me to keep going since I was almost there.
I decided to make a list of people who I would reach out to. I started sending out messages through my tablet then the power went out. I still felt the urge to keep going even though I did not know when the power would be restored. I switched to using my mobile phone.
I was happy people were willing to help me out. My confidence was building while I was in the dark. I figured this was the test to find out if I really wanted to achieve the goal and I wanted to pass it.
It took a couple of days to reach my goal but I achieved twenty five views of the video. I am happy I pushed myself to ignore the obstacles and keep going!

I just lovedlovedloved hearing all this, Jennifer. So inspiring! And in MKE terms, Subby really helped you by attracting the unexpected energy from your friend, too. “One friend multiplied what I asked of her and reached out to family members who knew me to get them to watch. From one call I got help from eleven people.” Congrats!
Good for you, Jennifer. I’m glad you reached your goal!
