minutes remaining

This week, I had a personal experience that really challenged my understanding of relaxation. I was trying to relax my body while staying completely still, but it turned out to be much harder than I thought it would be.

I’ve always appreciated the idea of unwinding and being still, but when it came time to actually practice it, I found myself feeling unsure. The thought running through my mind was, “How am I supposed to relax my body while staying perfectly still?”

It felt like the instructions I had received weren’t quite clear enough, and I was left wondering if I was doing it right. Consciously trying to relax while not moving at all was much stranger than I expected.

As I tried to focus on releasing tension, I realized how much of it I carry in my body without even being aware of it. Letting go of that tension while remaining motionless felt unnatural. At times, it even became frustrating because my mind started racing as I tried to calm my body.

I realized that staying still doesn’t necessarily mean you’re relaxed. In fact, the stillness sometimes made the tension more noticeable.

My mind felt like it was working against me, jumping from thought to thought, which made the process awkward. It became clear that I’ve been carrying physical and mental tension for a long time without really noticing, and intentionally trying to release that tension proved to be more difficult than I had anticipated.

What stood out to me the most from this experience was learning about the solar plexus. I hadn’t heard of it before, but I found out that it’s a nerve cluster located behind the stomach, and it actually plays a big role in controlling the mind. This was surprising to me because I always thought of the mind as being separate from the body.

Realizing that something physical in the body could influence mental control was eye-opening. It made me start thinking about how interconnected the mind and body really are, and how physical relaxation might have a deeper impact on mental clarity than I’d previously thought.

This whole experience has sparked my curiosity, and now I’m more interested in exploring how the body and mind work together to achieve true relaxation and balance.
