Blog post week 3 – ‘The Struggle is Real’

I tried it again today with a very similar result. Sitting still for 15 minutes and clearing my mind is proving very difficult. I’ve tried it different times of day and in different environments and haven’t had a lot of success.

I’ve done it in the morning, mid-day, evening; indoors, outdoors; with music, without music. The experience is pretty much the same. Thoughts of what I could be doing; should be doing; need to do dominate. It reminds me of being in a yoga class.

While everyone else is doing their shavasana pose and in an apparent Zen state; my mind is going a thousand miles a minute thinking about what I’m going to do the rest of the day. In as much as I love ‘Do it now, do it now, do it now, do it now do it now’; I need to find a way to push that out while I’m trying to spend 15 minutes of peace and meditation.

Starting today I’m going to try doing it in chunks. 5 minutes at a time; 3X/day. I’ll sit quietly in my office chair with my feet on my grounding mat. Once I get that down; I’ll do 2X/day for 7.5 minutes and eventually a whole 15. I’m not sure how long it will take or if it will work at all but it’s worth a shot.

Interestingly, what I find myself thinking about a lot during my sit attempts is my DMP. Although it’s a work in progress, it’s not perfected yet. Maybe once I have that secured then I’ll be able to move forward and do what I’m supposed to do for 15 minutes a day.

The way I see it, there is no substitute for doing the sit so making it happen will be a journey within a journey but I understand the benefit and am committed to getting there.
