MKE Week 2 – A Lot of things Going On
This week has been busy. I am getting settled in at my new role as Director of Media and Communications learning a lot of things about how things are setup and work at my new position. While there is a lot of things happening they are all things I at least have some experience in and what I don’t I am quickly learning.
A lot of it is the little things how things are done for the church. One job I have is to find images for the background of sermon titles (2 each week) and possibly a few other slides. I then have to make a couple versions of that for the digital street sign and some for the paper handouts and screens indoors. Pretty simple but just time consuming in looking to find an image to go along with the theme.
I am also learning Pro Presenter, an application made for churches to display words such as hymns, readings, sermon notes etc. on screen for the congregation to see. Having the correct words is important. Double checking what is loaded from the software versus what the hymnal in the pews says is one thing I will have to check each week to make sure they are accurate. It only reminds me abut the importance of the words we choose for all things in life right down to our DMP’s (Definite Major Purpose) and how the words we choose to use are important.
I found a cool toy that I will be in charge of a High Def camera, tripod, lighting and several lenses for the camera. I still have to figure out what I am going to use it for and what I will edit the content I create with. They are currently on a Windows setup and I have Final Cut but that is OSX (Mac software) but the good thing is I have a budget to work with too. Not a big one considering I am in charge of replacing technical equipment for staff and meeting rooms etc. through out the church but I was told almost all the computers are about 1-2 years old so those should last long enough for me to get settled in my new role.
The projectors in the sanctuaries however are about 5 years old so I am a little worried about bulb life expectancy and with how high up they are we have to contract a company to come work on them. I am used to doing that sort of work myself. The good news it won’t be too expensive to have them worked on but it is about 15% of my total yearly budget.
We are on a family trip in San Antonio TX for the weekend and will be visiting the Alamo and the Six Flags here as well as attending a sales pitch for some sort of hotel package thing but hey it got us a cheap trip. I have been keeping up with the requirements pretty well this week and feel next week should be less busy than the last two have been.
Off again until Next week.
What an appropriate photo: too many tabs open! LOL I understand!
Congrats on new job!
It does sound like you have quite a bit going on. Good job getting your blog done.
